Four of the five Czech tennis players went through the opening round at the tournament in Miami today. Sixteen-year-old Linda Fruhvirt, who starts in the main competition thanks to a wild card, succeeded at the premiere at the event of the elite category. She defeated Danka Koviničová from Montenegro 6: 0, 6: 4 smoothly.
Karolína Muchová succeeded in a Czech derby after a seven-month health break and defeated Tereza Martincová twice 7: 6. After qualifying, Marie Bouzková also managed the opening match in the main competition and defeated Laura Siegemundová from Germany 6: 1, 6: 2. Kateřina Siniaková turned the duel with Canadian Rebecca Marinová and won 3: 6, 6: 2, 6: 1.
The older of the Fruhvirt sisters, who received a wild card from the organizers last year for the qualification, took full advantage of this year’s chance. In the opening set, she outclassed her opponent in 26 minutes. In the second set, she was the first to lose the serve, but she turned the score from 1: 3 with two breaks and in 77 minutes she celebrated the most valuable progress so far.

Muchová last played at the US Open last year, where she finished in the opening round. Since then, she has been healing her injured abdominal muscles and has only returned to the courts in Florida. She also managed the second match against Martincová, she decided a balanced battle thanks to a better transformation of chances at key moments.
Siniak and Marinova struggled until the start of the second set. The first lost 3: 6, in the second but started the game from 0: 2. She won nine games in a row, took the lead 3-0 in the third set and did not let go of the lead. She only allowed her opponent to play the game and won in two hours.
Twenty-three-year-old Bouzková followed up on a successful performance in Indian Wells, where she qualified from the third round. With Siegemund, she lost only three fifts in her serve in the opening set, she was similarly sovereign in the second set and offered the first two breaks to her opponent only in the final game. In the end, however, she defended her service in it as well, and in 70 minutes she turned into a second match.
For the first time in her career, Fruhvirt will face a player from the top 50 of the WTA rankings. Belgian Elise Mertens is waiting for her, who had a free ticket at the beginning. Mucha will play with 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez from Canada, last year’s US Open finalist. British champion US Open Emma Raducanu is waiting for Siniak, Bouzková will face the fifth seed Paula Badosa from Spain.
The world number eight Karolína Plíšková, Petra Kvitová and Markéta Vondroušová were deployed directly to the second round in Miami.
