It is a sector closely linked to popular festivals. However, the restrictions imposed by the Government and the Autonomous Communities have caused the nougat of Tacoronte (Tenerife) -on which eight families depend- have been unable to work for sixteen months since, this year, the events could not be held.
Pili Hernández, worker and spokesperson for ‘Turrones Maribel López’ –“the only ones who make nougat in a wood oven and with five generations behind us” – he recognizes that he no longer remembers when he started in the trade. “From a very young age my mother had to take me to parties and when you are older you appreciate it”, Explain.
Excited, she tells on Radio Club Tenerife how the nougat companies survive thanks to orders from regular customers because “As there are no parties, there are no nougats. That is why requests are appreciated.”
