The Public Prosecution Service is demanding six years in prison against a 23-year-old Leiden resident who assaulted a woman and raped a minor woman last year. Both times he pretended to be someone else to get closer to his victim. In one case he said he was a police officer.
In February 2022, the suspect posed as her ex-boyfriend in a message to the underage woman. She was asked to come to the Leidse Hout city park. Her ex had an appointment there because he had a debt of 500 euros, the message said.
When she arrived in the evening, the 23-year-old Leiden resident was at the agreed place. Together they walked into the woods, where he put a gun to her head. Then he raped her.
He stopped when the victim saw someone walking his dog by. She started screaming loudly, after which the suspect fled. Together with the passerby, she called 911.
Defendant said he was a cop
A month later, the Leiden resident struck again. This time he was chasing a woman in a car. When she arrived at her home in Katwijk and parked, the man also got out of his car and approached her.
The man said he was a police officer and she had been speeding. He had a belt, pepper spray and handcuffs with him. He told him to search the woman and assaulted her. She later reported the event.
The suspect stated in court that he met the victim after a collision between their cars. There was no evidence for that. The police did find searches on the suspect’s phone, such as: “what does police identification look like”.
Man suffers ‘at most from self-overestimation’
A psychologist and a psychiatrist examined the man. They could not detect any psychological abnormalities. The psychiatrist says that at most he suffers from overconfidence.
The ex of the minor victim has also been arrested. His phone was used to lure her to the Leidse Hout. The Public Prosecution Service has not yet made a decision on the sentence against him.
