Before he fired, she said to the boy, “What are you doing with that?”
The primary school teacher underwent four operations.
Another teacher, Ms. Korvac, heard the gunshot and restrained the student until the police arrived. It was during this time that the boy may have confessed to the shooting, at one point also uttering profanities about Ms. Zwerner.
In an Aug. 9 interview with the Washington Post, Ms. Korvacs said that after the shooting, she entered the classroom to find the six-year-old standing next to his desk with his arms crossed, the gun on the floor at his feet.
She grabbed the boy by the arm and dragged him to the front of the classroom, where she grabbed the phone and called 911.
“While I was holding him, he told me that he had taken his mother’s gun the night before and put it in his backpack,” Kovac told the newspaper.
“He also told me that he only had time to load the gun with one bullet.”
Court documents also mention another incident with the same student when he was still in kindergarten.
A retired employee of the educational institution told the police that the boy started “choking her until she couldn’t breathe anymore”.
In Ms. Zwerner’s lawsuit, filed in April, she accuses school officials of gross negligence for ignoring signs of potentially threatening behavior and claims the defendants knew the child “had a previously observed propensity for sudden violence.”
