Six-Year-Old Johannes Nilsen Nordgård Stages His Own Revue – A Family Affair

It started about a year ago. Then six-year-old Johannes Nilsen Nordgård announced that he wanted to stage his very own revue.

The boy had already had many shows on the living room floor at home, but now the level of ambition was jacked up a few notches.

The parents did what most parents would have done; they plodded along, thinking that surely nothing would come of it – at best sometime far into the future.

But the six-year-old set about managing and organizing, so “once” came sooner than they expected.

– He doesn’t give up! laughs dad Christer Nilsen.

Twelve numbers were on the poster – carefully selected by six-year-old Johannes. As expected, as it is his revue, the six-year-old had a central role in all of them.

Uncensored

Tuesday last week was the day the dream came true. By then, the stage house Trudvang in Lånke in Stjørdal was full.

Most had received a handwritten invitation to “Gal musical”.

The six-year-old debutant sang, acted, parodied and made able jokes to loud laughter and stomping from the audience.

With him on stage, Johannes also had his father, mother, two aunts and grandfather – a group that has been active with the renowned Lånkerevyen for many years.

In that sense, it is not too shocking that Johannes himself is so keen on the revue.

He has both voluntarily and involuntarily taken part in many rehearsals and performances, and eventually he has also learned many of the numbers by heart.

It was almost like a family reunion on stage at Trudvang. From left: mum Jannike Klæbo Nordgård, aunt Sara Tronstad, Johannes Nilsen Nordgård, dad Christer Nilsen and grandfather Roger Nordgård.

It was therefore also natural that Johannes borrowed material from the Lånkerevyen for his own revue.

And the numbers were not to be tampered with – Johannes was strict about that. So censoring humor of the slightly coarser kind was out of the question.

But a six-year-old who makes a couple of powerful remarks and sings about “race” basically only made the laughter even looser among the audience.

Has control over everything

– It was very fun!

Johannes is clearly satisfied after his debut. When he is asked what he thinks is so funny about revues, the answer is typical for a six-year-old:

– Do not know.

But after giving it some thought, he adds:

– It’s fun to stand on stage and sing. I want a new show right away!

– I think he lives on this experience for a long time, smiles dad Christer.

Mayor of Stjørdal, Eli Arnstad (Sp), was sooooo sorry that she had to meet with the Ministry of Defense on the evening of the performance. But she trooped up to the dress rehearsal instead. Johannes thought it was great.

He emphasizes that Johannes has put in a lot of work up front – not only with learning the numbers, but also with everything around him.

It is Johannes who has selected the numbers, decided who will be on stage, selected costumes, wrote invitations, ensured that there were cakes and donuts in the kiosk, and not least he has thought about light and sound.

– He has managed everything, and then we have only helped, says mum Jannike Klæbo Nordgård.

Didn’t spend a penny

Mamma Jannike emphasizes that they are lucky to have many people around them who have volunteered – and for free.

Because even if the six-year-old’s enthusiasm was great, the economy could have quickly put an end to it all.

– He asked quite early on how much it cost to hire Jhohans, the revue band. We told him how much it cost, and then he said: “Oh, then I have to wait for many birthdays, because then I have to save money.” But then they do it for free, huh?!? Sound, light, music, camera – everyone has pitched in for free. It’s absolutely raw!

– I didn’t have to spend any money! Not even a single coronation! Johannes exclaims happily.

Family heirs

According to rumours, the musicians thought it was well worth it. They probably played with a small tear in the corner of their eye.

And if so, it wasn’t just those who had wet eyes. For grandfather Roger must admit that, although he has been on stage many times before, this evening was very special.

– I was so moved that it’s not true. He is involved in sketches that I have also performed. It was special to see, he says.

– It is absolutely crazy that the boy can do this. He knows everything about what it means to put on a revue, and then he delivers so cute! He continues the legacy, which I took over from my father. It’s touching.

Despite the fact that the whole family has been doing a revue for a while, no one has set up their own revue until now.

But if we are to believe Johannes, it will not be the last. He knows several revue numbers, must know!

– They will come to the next performance!

– I want a new show right away! I just snap, and that’s it! Johannes said quite immediately after the performance. We must not overlook the fact that he will be right about that.
