IN JUNE IN EHM
The International Center for Continental Music wanting to promote and highlight the female contribution to the traditional song of Epirus organizes a concert entitled “Six women sing Epirotika” which will take place on June 13, 2024 at the EHM/Frontzou theater in Ioannina.
They will sing:
- Chosen
- Phaedra Diamantis
- Konstantina Karamba
- Electra Xera
- Konstantina Tunis and
- Lefkothea Philippidis.
They will perform traditional songs from many regions of Epirus – Ioannina, Zagori, Pogoni, Arta, Preveza, Sarakatsanous, Konitsa, Tzoumerka and Thesprotia – as well as from all over Epirus.
They will be accompanied by chosen ones instrumentalists like him Nikos Filippidisthe Vasilis Papageorgiouthe Tryfona Anastasios and the Dimitris Lampakiwhile they will be framed dancing from Lyceum of the Greek women of Ioannina.

Women have always sung continental songs, but not in public. Mothers and grandmothers sang lullabies and other songs to their babies, at home polyphonically, at the tap, at engagements and weddings, as well as obituaries.
In the musical companies and zygies in Epirus, the instrumentalists themselves sang, and later male singers.
In the last century – with a lot of effort – women began to sing in Epirus in recordings and to go up to the lofts/palkas mainly in the urban centers. Members of musical families or gifted with wonderful voices and interpretative abilities came to the forefront of the musical tradition.
In recent decades, the presence of women has increased and now dozens of women, Epirotis or not, perform the traditional songs with respect.
DiKIM successfully carried out the October 2023 at the Athens Concert Hall the concert “I miss and rejoice” with the participation of 50 musicians from Epirus and 85 dancers. In August 2022, he gave the first concert of traditional Epirotian music in Monodendri, Zagori. Both acts were well received by the public and received very positive comments for the level of their production.
