Six people rescued from the sea in Vila do Conde: ″ It could have been a tragedy ″

Two lifeguards and a 20-year-old bather went to the hospital this Friday, following a rescue that almost ended in tragedy at Mindelo beach, in Vila do Conde.

“It was the most difficult mission I have ever had. It could have been a tragedy, but luckily it ended well” explained, to JN, the commander of the captaincy of Vila do Conde, Marques Coelho.

It all started at 12.30 pm, when three young people around 20 years old decided to go into the sea and venture out to swim, even with the red flag.

The three swimmers on duty at Mindelo beach came to warn them, but the boys were already in distress, dragged by the strong current and the swell. They called for help.

“They were able to help the popular, but then they could no longer return,” said the commander. Thanks to the jet ski that arrived in time to “avoid the worst” and rescued the three swimmers who, risking their lives, took to the water to save the three young people.

One of the boys and two swimmers were transported to the Póvoa hospital in hypothermia. Marques Coelho leaves the warning: “The sea is dangerous. There is no point in taking chances!”.
