The number of people who have died in Japan due to Typhoon Shanshan has risen to six and 127 have been injured, according to the latest count by local media, which indicate that another person is still missing as a result of the storm, which has brought with it heavy rains and winds. This was announced by the Japanese newspaper ‘Yomiuri Shimbun’ – the country’s largest newspaper – which updated the toll at 09:00 hours (local time) this Saturday, when the typhoon continued its east-southeast movement at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, and about 50 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Tanabe, in the Wakayama prefecture. Although the typhoon is expected to become a tropical cyclone on Monday, heavy rains are expected to continue, reaching 400 millimeters in some regions of the country. For this reason, the Japan Meteorological Agency has requested “strict vigilance against river flooding and landslides,” according to the aforementioned media. The typhoon has weakened since it made landfall on Thursday, but heavy rains continue on the main island of the archipelago, Kyushu, where on Friday more than 800 millimeters of precipitation were reported. In this context, flights and trains have seen their services cancelled for safety reasons.
