BEIJING, Dec.28 (Xinhua) – China’s National Health Commission said on Monday it received reports of 21 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the mainland on Sunday, including 15 imported cases and six locally transmitted cases. .

All the locally transmitted cases have been reported in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, the commission said in its daily report. No new deaths from the disease have been reported.

A new suspected case from outside the mainland was recorded in Shanghai on Sunday, according to the commission.

Sixteen COVID-19 patients were released from hospital on Sunday on the mainland.

According to the report established on Sunday at the end of the day, a total of 4,218 imported cases had been recorded on the mainland. Of these, 3,948 left the hospital after their recovery, and 270 remain hospitalized. No deaths were reported among the imported cases.

By the same day, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the mainland had reached 86,976. Among them, 339 were still hospitalized.

A total of 82,003 patients had left hospital after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.

On Sunday, a suspected case of COVID-19 was reported on the mainland, and 11,791 close contacts were still under medical observation.

On the same day, twenty new asymptomatic cases were reported, including 16 imported cases. Four asymptomatic cases were reclassified as confirmed cases.

A total of 267 asymptomatic cases were under medical observation, of which 219 were from outside the mainland.

As of late Sunday, 8,610 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 137 deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 cases in Macao SAR and 785 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan .

A total of 7,474 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong, 46 in Macau and 653 in Taiwan were discharged from hospital after their recovery.
