Six more years for Nézet-Séguin at the New York Opera

During this time, Nézet-Séguin should produce four to five operas per season and work on a new production of Richard Wagner’s opera cycle “The Ring of the Nibelung”.

Nézet-Séguin is only the third music director in the history of the Metropolitan Opera. In 2018 he replaced James Levine, who died in 2021, who shaped the Met for decades and was hailed as a star director, but then fell over sexual assault allegations.

With the opening of the season in September, Nézet-Séguin will have a new choirmaster from Germany: the German conductor Tilman Michael, who previously worked at the Frankfurt Opera, will then be the conductor of the Metropolitan Opera choir.
