Six moose collisions in just over an hour in Nordland

The six moose were hit in six different places in the county.

The first message came in to the police at 16.57. That moose was hit on county road 85 at Kjerringnes in Sortland municipality.

Five minutes later, the police were notified of a moose collision on county road 822 by Fiskefjord in Tjeldsund municipality.

Then they were notified of a new moose collision: on the E6 at Falkeid.

At 17.41, the police were notified that two moose had been hit by the Sundsfjord on county road 17 in Gildeskål municipality.

One hour and eight minutes after the first moose collision, the police were notified of a new collision: on county road 17 at Alstadhaug.

No people were injured in connection with the collisions, but there is material damage to the cars, says operations manager Ivar Bo Nilsson in Nordland police district to TV 2.

– It is a combination with the fact that it is dark, slippery and a lot of snow in the terrain. Nordland is an elongated county, and there are great distances. Phones from all over the county became very violent when many people arrived in a short time, says the operations manager.

Bo Nilsson comes with a clear encouragement to people who are out driving.

– Be observant and take it easy, he says.

Moose are hit all year round, but especially in winter.

– It is almost strange that there are moose left. They appear where you least expect it, and they pose a great danger, because they are large animals. All the drivers were lucky today, but the vehicles have been badly damaged, says the operations manager.

Viltnemda has arrived at the collision, on county road 17 in Sundsfjorden, and has started a search. Viltnemda is on its way out to the other collisions as well.
