Chicago – Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Thursday that she will have six mass vaccination sites up and running by next week.
The sites to administer the covid-19 vaccine that is free are found at Malcolm X, Richard J. Daley, Olive-Harvey, Kennedy-King, Harry S. Truman, and Arturo Velásquez High School.
These vaccination sites are for Phase 1a healthcare workers by appointment only.
Dr. Geraldine Luna, medical director of the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) told La Raza that phase 1b in Chicago is estimated to start in February.
Chicago is currently in Phase 1a which includes vaccinating healthcare workers, nursing home staff and residents, paramedics and first responders.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the biggest problem facing that immunization plan is that the city is not getting enough vaccines from the federal government. And if the current rate of distribution continues, it would take a year and a half to vaccinate the entire city of Chicago.
When 600,000 people must be vaccinated in the next phase and the city of Chicago receives 32,000 doses of vaccine per weekThis will not be enough to move forward quickly, said CDPH Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady.
