Six Marines suspended for racist apps

The footage was found in a service-related app group, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement. These included racist images. At the time the report was received by the Ministry of Defense, the Marines were on exercise in Denmark. They were immediately sent back to the Netherlands.

The Ministry of Defense has also asked the Public Prosecution Service to investigate whether criminal offenses have been committed. Depending on that investigation, and any prosecution, further measures will be taken.

Link with right-wing extremism?

The ministry cannot say whether there is a link with right-wing extremism. Research is still being done. The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) announced in its annual report at the end of April that the investigation into this group in the armed forces will be intensified.
