Six lions were found dead late Friday night in a wildlife park in Uganda. Park officials say they may have been poisoned by animal traffickers. A number of other animals could be rescued.

Some of the dead lions’ body parts were missing when they were discovered in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Eight vultures were also found dead near the dead lions, the Ugandan Wildlife Authority (UWA) said in a tweet Saturday.
Those details point to “possible poisoning of the lions by strangers,” says the UWA.
Queen Elizabeth Park is popular with tourists hoping to see large mammals such as lions, giraffes, elephants and hippos. However, lion poisoning is more common in the park, which borders the militia-ravaged northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
