Six in court four years after New Year’s Eve rave under Covid

Six of them will be in the dock this Monday. On the evening of the events with which they are accused, at least 2,500 people gathered in an abandoned hangar in Lieuron, in the country of Ille-et-Vilaine. This night from December 31 to January 1, 2021 had been big party scene because Britain knows how to organize, under the noses of the authorities who are often powerless to prevent it.

Yes, but that evening was not like the others. Organized in the middle of a protective zone that protected us from the spread of Covid-19, the Lieuron rave party it had caused quite a stir. In France, but also in many countries where this party was held. Very soon, Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior at the time, asked for sanctions, even describing the party members as “criminals”.

Felonies and misdemeanors tried together

Almost four years after the events, one of the most visible parties of the decade will be held in the courtroom of the criminal court of Rennes. No speakers or music. But with six defendants, one of them had a taste of prison, spending eighteen days in pre-trial detention before being released.

At the age of 24 to 30, they will be tried for “organization without prior confirmation a festive gathering of a musical nature », a crime punishable by a class 5 fine amounting to 1,500 euros. But also for crimes such as “damaging or destroying someone else’s property”, “concealing property” or “stealing a license plate”, this time can be punished with a prison sentence for the worst.

A rally of support was announced on social networks by a group that denounced “the strategies carried out by the State to crush the free party”.
