Six Gulf states, 10 ASEAN countries condemn Gaza attack

(AFP Riyadh 20 AFP) Leaders of Persian Gulf and Southeast Asian countries issued a statement after a summit today, condemning attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip and calling on Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas to ) permanent ceasefire.

The six countries of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held a summit today in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The statement after the meeting called on Hamas militants to release about 200 hostages they held hostage and resume basic services to the Palestinian people and the delivery of humanitarian supplies.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed. Mohammed bin Salman said at the opening ceremony: “At this moment when we gather, Gaza is experiencing an escalation of violence, and it is innocent civilians who are paying the price. We are saddened by this.”

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said: “The violence must stop. The first priority at this moment must be humanity. We must prevent the situation from getting worse.”
