/ world today news/ The EU allows the possibility that next year some of the bloc’s members, including Bulgaria, will remove the sanctions from one of the sectors of the Russian economy. This was reported by Reuters on Saturday (July 30), citing a European diplomat.
Most likely, not all sanctions will be removed at the same time, but it is possible that a decision will be made to remove them from one of the sectors of the economy next year,” said the source of the agency, quoted by RIA Novosti.
EC President Jean-Claude Juncker’s decision to visit Russia during the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg was prompted by concerns that the EU was losing its unity over anti-Russian sanctions, the source noted. “As a result, we see that more and more countries are doubting and saying that they need to analyze the sanctions and assess their impact,” he adds.
Reuters clarifies that basically those EU countries, where the Russian sanctions have had the most serious impact, are changing their position. The governments of these countries are experiencing increasing pressure from their citizens, the agency claims. In particular, it concerns the countries of Southern and Eastern Europe – Italy, Greece, Hungary, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia and Bulgaria.
