Six days after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, rescuers are still pulling survivors from the rubble. In Hatay province, for example, a 10-year-old girl was rescued 147 hours after the disaster.
A British Channel 4 correspondent shared images of the rescue Twitter. The girl’s name is Cudi and was found by rescue services in a home in which she had collapsed. After the rescue, Cudi was rushed away for medical attention.
In Antakya, the capital of Hatay province, someone was pulled alive from the rubble later on Sunday. Mustafa Sarigul, 35, was found by Turkish and Romanian rescue teams.
The rescue operation was broadcast live on television. Sarigul had been under the rubble for 149 hours, but rescuers say the man is in good health.
According to official figures, at least 24,617 people have been killed in Turkey so far as a result of the earthquake. The death toll in Syria is currently at 3,574. The UN expects the death toll to rise to over 50,000.
