Six parked cars caught fire this morning in Heeze in Brabant. The fire was probably caused by the use of a weed burner, writes Broadcasting Brabant.
Burning weeds during extreme drought is not prohibited, explains a spokesman for the fire service. According to him, it is likely that the fire was caused by a weed burner, but that cannot be said with certainty yet. A landscaping company was doing work in the parking lot.
“It happened on our own property, so it is allowed. Of course there are risks associated with such a weed burner during drought. We will not discuss the question of guilt. It will become more of an insurance issue,” said the spokesman.
Drought
The fire service deployed two fire engines and a water tank. The fire was under control around 10:45 a.m. Six cars were completely destroyed, several others were damaged. The cars were parked at a conference center in Heeze.
“Due to the extreme drought, we paid extra attention to the surrounding nature when extinguishing,” a spokesperson for the fire service told the broadcaster. The fire service is still working on extinguishing the fire for a while.
