NEW YORK — Six people were injured after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the Bronx, New York City Police said.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred around 12:19 pm in the area of 854 163rd St when the driver of an SUV tried to back up but sped up and ended up on the sidewalk. At that time he ran over six people, the uniformed woman added.
All of the injured sustained minor injuries, police added.
The victims were waiting in line to receive food when the accident occurred. The car also ended up against a beauty salon, police added.
Images posted on the Citizen app showed a heavy emergency presence at the scene, with the rear of the SUV wedged into the saloon and several ambulances and fire engines visible on the street.
The salon was closed when it happened. The owner reported locking the door minutes before the impact.
No further details were released.
