A successful operation was carried out by the Public Security Directorate of the Municipality of Chillán together with Carabineros with the aim of controlling the illegal trade of cigarettes and drugs.
The action carried out especially in the center of the regional capital made it possible to remove a significant amount of merchandise from the streets that does not have sectoral authorizations, highlighted the director of the municipal entity Alejandra Martínez.
The commissioner of the 2nd Chillán Police Station, Major Julio Beltrán Silva, reported that during the operation six people were arrested for cigarette smuggling, as well as detainees for drugs and law 20,000 that controls the sale of psychotropic drugs.
In total, the police officer detailed, 321 packs of cigarettes and more than 100 boxes of medications were taken out of circulation.
Alejandra Martínez stressed that “one of the incivilities that worries us the most is the street commerce located in central points of the city as well as outside the four avenues such as Francisco Ramírez and the Puelches sector.”
To limit the illegal sale of products that can have adverse effects on people’s health, he stressed, “we have implemented different strategies together with our mixed patrols with police, as well as work with the Regional Security Table.”
The sale of cigarettes and drugs has increased recently. Just between the last two months, including the last operation, 11 people have been arrested and 1,200 packs of cigarettes seized.
