situation under control at Marie-Madeleine hospital in Forbach

No more serious but more contagious

“Variant cases are more contagious but not necessarily more serious. Not all of them require hospitalization. The variants seem to spread faster in a young population. However, the average age of hospitalized patients remains high, ”says Isabelle Caillier, director of Marie-Madeleine hospital.

For her, the situation remains under control and has nothing to do with what the hospital experienced in the spring of 2020, with a peak at more than 160 people hospitalized at the same time.

“We nevertheless remain very vigilant. Our dedicated Covid services have been expanded and we are forced to deprogram around 45% of surgeries in the coming days. The urgency remains assured. It is only interventions that are comfortable or that can be postponed without endangering the patient that are postponed, ”says Isabelle Caillier.

The variant more present in schools

As the epidemic rebound seems to affect young people more, several classes have been closed in recent weeks in schools, high schools and colleges in the Forbach region. This is the case at the Jean-Moulin school complex or in schools in Behren-lès-Forbach and Morsbach. The private college Le Providence in Freyming-Merlebach even closed completely at the start of the week. It is therefore especially concerning a possible global closure of schools that the intervention of Minister Olivier Véran is expected this afternoon in Metz.
