Situation report on coronavirus COVID-19 in Uruguay (12/08/2020)
Epidemiological report:
The authorities thank the population for compliance with preventive measures (use of masks, physical distancing, ventilation, hygiene, reduction of circles of social contact, reduction of the duration of meetings, etc.) and request a special effort on these dates , taking extreme care in order to control the spread of the virus without the need to resort to greater restrictive measures for social mobility.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), today 5622 analyzes were carried out and 303 new cases of Coronavirus COVID-19 were detected. Of the 303 new cases, 192 are from Montevideo, 37 from Canelones, 24 from Rivera, 16 from Rocha, 11 from San José, 4 from Artigas, 4 from Maldonado, 3 from Cerro Largo, 3 from Colonia, 3 from Tacuarembó, 2 from Florida, 2 from Lavalleja and 2 from Soriano. As for the epidemiological trace, to the already reported outbreaks there are also outbreaks in companies, shops, educational and sports centers. In all cases, strict epidemiological monitoring is carried out.
Since the health emergency was declared on March 13, 477,921 tests have been processed and 7,806 positive cases of Coronavirus have been registered throughout the national territory. Of that total, 5415 have already recovered.
Today 3 new deaths from Coronavirus were confirmed in our country. These were 3 patients from Montevideo, 59, 81 and 83 years old. So far there are 86 deaths from COVID-19 in Uruguay.
There are currently 2305 active cases, that is, people who are experiencing the disease, 26 of them are in intensive care and none are in intermediate care.
Of the total of confirmed positive cases, 665 correspond to health personnel. 522 of them have already recovered, 141 are suffering from the disease and 2 have died.
There are 18 departments with active cases to date: Artigas, Canelones, Cerro Largo, Colonia, Durazno, Flores, Florida, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Montevideo, Paysandú, Río Negro, Rivera, Rocha, Salto, San José, Soriano and Tacuarembó .
CLARIFICATION: Yesterday the total positive cases confirmed to date was 7505 cases of Coronavirus COVID-19. Today 303 new cases and a total of 7,806 confirmed positive cases are reported. The difference is explained because 2 foreign citizens tested positive and returned to their countries.
Measures to prevent the spread of the virus
Faced with the increase in cases of Coronavirus COVID-19 registered in recent days, the authorities announced that, until December 18 inclusive:
- Implement teleworking in public offices to the extent that it does not compromise the essential quality of the service.
- Suspend sports activity in gyms and closed places.
- Suspend the end-of-year parties in educational centers.
- Bars and restaurants must close their doors to the public at 00:00 (being able to maintain home delivery service) and in case of non-compliance they will receive financial penalties.
- Maintain a strict control of the parties that have been authorized. Failure to comply with current protocols will enable economic sanctions and in the case of non-protocolized parties, criminal sanctions will be added to the economic sanctions.
As a complement to the aforementioned mandatory measures, the authorities recommend:
- Promote teleworking for private companies throughout the country.
- Hold small social gatherings, with distancing measures, facial mask and ventilation, lasting no more than 2 hours.
- Avoid all kinds of crowds in public spaces.
- In case of suspected contact with a person with COVID-19, carry out voluntary quarantine and request medical attention.
