Status report in Shawinigan on Friday

The City of Shawinigan reopened this morning, a week after the heavy rains that necessitated the declaration of emergency measures.

After the section of Chemin de la Baie-Martin was reopened yesterday at the end of the day, all citizens are now free of access.

“Our teams have done an amazing job to get citizens open as quickly as possible. However, we have to stay behind and be careful, because our infrastructure is weakened in several places and more rain is expected this weekend, says Mayor Michel Angers. Several sections are being monitored or are undergoing inspection and repair work on the road and shoulders will continue in the coming days, including this weekend. »

“I would like to thank all the staff who have worked so hard over the past week and will continue to do so in the coming days and weeks. We remind citizens to prepare for possible events by always having a 72-hour emergency kit ready at home, to provide essential needs in the event of a disaster ,” said Kim Dumais, general manager.

Note that there will be no accumulation of materials left in isolated areas this week. Citizens are invited to use the containers provided for household waste and to keep the recycling at home. We will contact you again when collections resume.
