Sitting on the garbage crate being assembled at Kemiri Muka Market

Storage area

Residents complain about growing rubbish at Kemiri Muka market, Storage area, West Java. The market reveals the reason for the accumulation of waste.

A resident named Mutia (36) revealed that the accumulation of rubbish had been happening since August 2021. He said the rubbish had piled up like a mountain because the transport trucks were no longer working.

“From 2021 to August, if I’m not mistaken. The trucks in the fleet no longer work as usual,” Mutia (26) told detikcom on Sunday (12/25/2022).

Mutia said the waste originally came from waste from the market. However, as the officers did not transport it, a mountain of garbage was formed.

Mutia once reported the garbage pile from Kemiri Muka Market to the Depok City Government in November 2021. However, up until now, he said there had been no changes in the garbage pile.

In addition to causing a pungent smell, when it rains heavily, garbage decomposes in the streets. He hopes that the piles of garbage can be removed and repaired by the waste collection system.

“Please remove and repair this garbage collection system immediately. The smell is very disturbing, when it rains the market gets flooded. The garbage decomposes everywhere,” he said.

Depok city government starts garbage transportation

The municipal government of Depok has started transporting mountains of garbage to the Pasar Kemiri Muka area. The Depok Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK) dispatched four trucks today to transport the waste.

Head of DLHK’s Cleaning and Partnership Division Iskandar Zulkarnaen said his team will deploy 12 garbage trucks from other areas tomorrow. Iskandar said his party is trying to sort the waste that is being transported to the TPA.

“Tomorrow there will be an option involving 12 garbage trucks with assistance from other areas. In the future there will be organic sorting efforts as was done at Cisalak market and it will significantly reduce the waste transported to TPA,” Iskandar said to journalists, Monday (26/12/2022).

He suspected the garbage was from outside the Muka Candlenut Market. He said garbage at the site has been piling up since June 2022.

“So far, the market waste has been under control. There are indications that more waste is entering from outside the market because we don’t monitor it around the clock. There is a photo of a waste disposal using a 02 pick up :00 at night, but I’m still looking for the validity of the information,” he continued.
