sit-in of teachers at the Ministry of National Education – Journal du Gabon

The teachers decided to carry out a sit-in this Monday March 4, 2024 in front of the Ministry of National Education in order to make their demands heard by the new authorities.

There are more than ten teachers who showed up at the Ministry of National Education this Monday to demand payment for their recalls, their advancements and reclassifications. They want their situations to be resolved. Because many of them have worked for more than twenty years without tenure on an intern’s salary. This is also what was debated on Saturday March 2, 2024, during the general assembly of Gabon’s teachers’ unions.

Speaking today, the general delegate of Conasysed (National Convention of Education System Unions), announced that a strike notice will be submitted to the Prime Minister’s office with amplification from the ministries of National Education and that of the civil service. This strike notice takes effect this Monday, March 4, 2024 and ends on March 15. Teachers are awaiting negotiations with the new authorities.

Let us recall that two trade unionists, namely Alain Mouangouadi, Vice-President of Dynamique Unitaire (DU), responsible for unionization and General Delegate of the National Convention of Unions in the Education System (CONASYSED), and Thierry Nkoulou, advisor to the president of Dynamique Unitaire, had disappeared after attending a meeting, Friday 1is March, afternoon, with the Minister of the Civil Service. The two were released on Sunday March 3 and until now do not know the perpetrators of their kidnapping. However, they announced that a complaint will be filed in order to unmask these kidnappers.
