Jakarta –
From last week terbetik news Ir Siswono Yudo Husodo he resigned as chairman of the party’s advisory council NasDem which he has held since 2014. The reason given by NasDem, the man born in Long Iram, East Kalimantan on July 4, 1943, was a health factor considering he was 80 years old. It’s right?
Until now Siswono Yudo Husodo he has yet to issue a statement regarding his resignation. But in recent years he has chosen to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Ratih Gondokusumo’s husband is alone. Enjoying the solitude being a cow and buffalo herder at Waru Wangi Hill, Serang – Banten.
There, among other things, he raises Limousin and Ongole breed cattle, complete with forage grasses, Brachiaria de Cumbens and Brachiaria Humidocola, known for their good nutrition and resistance to trampling.
Siswono Yudo Husodo revealed this in his autobiography, “Country of Thousands of Rainbows”, published by Elex Media Komputindo, June 2022. He hopes that in the next 10 years, Indonesia can recover its meat self-sufficiency.
“Indonesia today has only 18 million cows and buffaloes which are not enough to meet the needs of its 270 million people,” wrote Siswono, who served as Minister of Public Housing (1988-1993) and Minister of Transmigration (1993-1998).
He compared that to New Zealand, which has a population of 4.5 million but has 10 million cows. Similarly, Australia, with a population of 24 million, has up to 28 million head of cattle, while Brazil, with a population of 210 million, produces 230 million head of cattle.
“Until 1970, Indonesia was still able to export cattle and buffalo, but now it brings in 650,000 head of cattle annually worth $650 million or the equivalent of 8.4 trillion rupees (exchange rate of 1 dollar = 14,000 rupees)” wrote Siswono.
Although his main activity since 1969 has been the construction of road infrastructure, housing and ports, after becoming minister Siswono Yudo Husodo had a special focus on agriculture. He was once the president of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI).
Apart from agricultural business, Siswono Yudo Husodo has also ventured into tourism and hospitality industry, including through PT Panorama Agro Sidomukti, Umbul Sidomukti Tourism Area, Tirto Arum Agro Tourism, Bumi Linggah Bali Villas Resort and others.
