Sisters’ Disappointment: No Offers on Renovated Home

Big disappointment with Winnie and Saskia in a new episode of Worth Tuesday evening. The two sisters participated in the DIY program in the hope of selling their renovated home at a profit. However, they came home with a cold fair when it turned out that no offer had been made. “Very sour.”

The sisters Saskia and Winnie, who live near Amsterdam, can read and write together. They therefore decide to embark on a new adventure and buy a house, hoping to sell it for a substantial profit. The two initially search in the Randstad, but when it turns out that the houses there are unaffordable, they move to Apeldoorn.

There, Saskia and Winnie soon come across a house that is quite outdated and could do with a makeover. They don’t turn their hands around for it, make an offer and eventually manage to buy the house for 325,000 euros. With a construction budget of 60,000 euros, the ladies hope to transform the abode into a modern accommodation in four months. The target? Selling the house for at least 460,000 euros, making a profit of 75,000 euros.

Winnie and Saskia’s construction budget, however, is ‘much too little’, according to structural engineer Bob Sikkes. But despite those doubts, the two set to work in good spirits. They hire a contractor and go out themselves to buy a kitchen, floor and bathroom. Moreover, it is urgent. Winnie and Saskia want to sell the house before the start of the summer because Winnie is emigrating to Singapore.

I hate to say that, but that’s why we’re here

‘Depends on rookie mistakes’

The sisters do not complete the house in four months, but six months. When Bob enters the house, he is shocked. “Just here, huh”, he refers to the living room. ,, All sockets at different heights, in different versions, which I can’t handle very well myself. And so there is a room with a door that does not close and a room where there is not even a single socket. It should be clear: the finish leaves much to be desired. ,,I see that it depends on rookie mistakes. I hate to say that, but that is why we are here.”

Winnie and Saskia eventually decide to put the house up for sale. Because the construction budget has also been increased by an extra 15,000 euros, they hope in any case not to make a loss on the house. But the broker estimates the house at a value of 435,000, which is 25,000 euros less than Winnie and Saskia initially went for.

The disappointment is even greater when presenter Tijl Beckand receives bad news from the estate agent: zero bids have been received. “It is very bummed. We had hoped that the storm would come, but yes. We are just too late, I think”, Saskia responds to Tijl’s statement. After six months there is still no progress and so Tijl and Bob still end the adventure in style with the sisters.

But then, in March this year, Winnie has an update: the house has finally been sold. Was it worth it? “Not financially. We even had to compromise on it, so that is quite sour.” Nevertheless, the ladies do not regret their participation, although they would not quickly ‘flip’ a house a second time. ,,Not for a while, Winnie concludes.
