Windhoek / Lüderitz (Nampa / sb) – Investing in early childhood development makes good business sense as it promotes the country’s future. The Minister for Gender Equality, Doreen Sioka, said on Thursday at the inauguration of the Exodus Center for Early Childhood Development (ECD) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lüderitz. However, early childhood development is not the sole responsibility of the government; it requires a concerted effort.
The construction of the center was financed by the Rotary Club Lüderitz in cooperation with the Rotary Club Bocholt in Germany with 1.6 million Namibian dollars. It consists of three classrooms, three toilets, a kitchen and a storage room. Two teachers are currently looking after 37 children there. The minister said the two Rotary clubs have clearly recognized the importance of early learning stimulation by helping to build a facility where children can play, learn, and be cared for.
