The family of 85-year-old Angèle, one of the residents who died, is going to file a complaint. “I’ve been taking care of my sister for four years. I still haven’t had a card that says my condolences and I’ve been coming there for four years, ”Lily Lenaerts tells VTM. “Sinterklaas is not allowed to go to schools or anywhere else, but he is allowed to walk around there.”
Photos of the visit show that Sinterklaas does not keep his distance and that the residents do not wear a mouth mask.
According to Lily, care in the nursing home had been inadequate for some time and they had applied for a transfer. “Dissatisfied residents had to pay for it. They dared not say anything. ”
The son of one of the residents played Sinterklaas. He tested positive a few days after his visit to the nursing home. He had not taken a test prior to his performance. He showed no symptoms. Whether he caused the outbreak cannot be said with certainty.
