Koos Vos of the organizing committee tells RTL Nieuws that the entry has been shortened and adjusted as a precaution. “It was busy, but that was not the main reason that we intervened. The visitors stood still for too long in some places.”

The organization wanted to prevent that long waiting and standing still because of the advancing corona virus. “We heard from the municipality that 2000 people had come to the entry, but that may well have been 5000,” says Vos.
According to him, there have been continuous consultations with the municipality and the police. “All dilemmas have been explored together and that is why we have decided this now.”

Sinterklaas to another location
The organization has moved Sinterklaas to another location and continued the activities there, explains Vos. “And we have decided to end some activities earlier than planned.”
In the surrounding villages many entrances were cancelled. As a result, people from outside Harderwijk have also come to the entry, says Vos. “It was already going around on Facebook that the arrival in Harderwijk did take place and not in surrounding areas. People have even flown over from America to be at an arrival of Sinterklaas.”
