Sinovac Boss Talks About the Covid CoronaVac Vaccine, What Do He Say?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Not yet over vaccination programs in a number of countries including Indonesia, new virus variants have spread in several regions of the world. The effectiveness of vaccines currently in circulation is questionable whether they can fight new variants.

In an interview with Global Times, Sinovac CEO, Yin Weidong said the vaccine product is still considered effective against Covid-19 and other mutations. Meanwhile, according to him, mass vaccination is still the key to solving this pandemic.

“One of the prerequisites for redesigning is a mutated strain to become dominant. The vaccines we are currently using are still effective against Covid-19 and other mutations from the corona virus. Only a few countries have endemic mutated strains of the virus. For some other countries, mass vaccination efforts are attempted. and fast is the key, “said Yin Weidong quoted Wednesday (10/3/2021).

He added that his party is working with scientists and national agencies in China to track any changes. This includes holding discussions related to potential treatments.

According to him, recalibration of vaccines requires re-engineering of strain mutations. In addition, it is also necessary to reassess standards and regulatory policies for the new vaccine.

“If the degree of variation is not large, maybe there is no need for adjustment: If the degree of variation is serious, the adjustment requires cooperation with various parties,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sinovac vaccine, claimed by Yin Weidong, provides 80-90 percent protection within two months after the two injections are given. However, according to him, the vaccine recipient’s antibodies continued to decline.

He added that his party was conducting research to provide a third vaccine injection. The research aims to see if the protection gets even higher.

“We are now analyzing protection level data after six months including conducting experiments in giving the recipient a third injection to see if there is an increase in higher protection. Some of the results are expected to come out soon,” he said.
