Sino-Arab summit; Xi Jinping to Saudi | World | Deshabhimani

Riyadh
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the first Arab-China summit and the Gulf Cooperation Council summit. The summit will be attended by many Arab leaders and foreign ministers.

The Chinese delegation is expected to sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding related to energy, security and infrastructure development. Xi Jinping will attend various conferences in Saudi Arabia until Saturday. The China-Arab States Cooperation Forum was established in 2004 to strengthen relations between China and Arab countries. The Sino-Arab summit is its continuation. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning responded that the summit should become a milestone in the history of China-Arab relations.

The Chinese president’s visit to Saudi Arabia comes at a time when relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States are strained over the oil production dispute. OPEC Plus’s decision to cut oil production despite US objections angered the US. Saudi Arabia has rejected US allegations that the decision by OPEC countries to cut oil production was politicized and that the decision was under pressure from Russia.
