Sinner: “We people in the mountains are different” – sport

Jannik Sinner is still on his way to the top of the world at full speed. And that’s not just sporty. Thanks to its popularity ratings in Italy, the Sextner makes it more and more often on the front pages of Italian gazettes and on talk shows.

Many South Tyroleans and Italians remembered Sinner’s appearance on the television program “What’s the weather like” having stayed with Fabio Fazio, where Sinner delighted an audience of millions with his sympathetic, reserved manner and at the same time with puns.

Sought-after face: contracts with Rolex & Co.

Thanks to the popularity ratings, Sinner is increasingly able to land large and lucrative sponsorship contracts. Like his great idol Roger Federer, the Sesto is now one of the faces of the Geneva watch manufacturer Rolex. The 19-year-old has also posed for Gucci.

Shortly before the start of Wimbledon (June 28th to July 11th), Sinner graces the current cover of the Italian edition of the international men’s magazine GQ. The director of the magazine, which appears quarterly (GQ stands for Gentlemen’s Quarterly), talks to Sinner about the hype surrounding himself, about comparisons with the living tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic and about his tough path to the top of tennis.

“The most important thing is respect. We are all the same.”

Sinner also talks about how he fared at a young age when he left the mountain village of Sexten at the age of 13 to hone his tennis game in Liguria.

“You know, we people of the mountains are different. The hard work is important to us, ”replies Sinner when asked how he grew up. The 19-year-old thanks his parents for everything they gave him along the way, especially for values: “I hate discrimination of any kind. The most important thing is respect. We are all the same, ”says Sinner.
