The draw for the French Open was held in Paris on Thursday evening. Neither Jannik Sinner nor Andreas Seppi had any luck.
27. May 2021
When the second Grand Slam tournament of the year begins on Sunday, there are several delicacies on the program. That was the result of the draw that took place on Thursday in camera. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were drawn to the same half of the table, which is an absolute novelty. This had never happened before in a Grand Slam. It is already clear that there will be no final between the three best tennis players of all time.
The “stupid” thing from the South Tyrolean point of view: Both Jannik Sinner and Andreas Seppi ended up in this half. In the first round, the Sextner meets the French doubles specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert (ATP 83), whom he has already defeated in his career: Last year, the youngster outclassed the 30-year-old in Cologne 6: 3 and 6 :1. Still, Herbert, who serves as a strong player, is an extremely unpleasant opponent. Should Sinner successfully master this task, either Gianluca Mager (ATP 85) or John Millman (ATP 43) would wait in the second round. In the third round, Gael Monfils (ATP 14) should be the opponent, before a repeat of last year’s quarter-finals with Rafael Nadal would be inevitable in the round of 16. However, all of this is a long way off.
Seppi also unlucky
Andreas Seppi wasn’t lucky either on Thursday. The Kalterer, who only returned to the ATP tour this week in order to prepare for the grass season in the best possible way, will face the Canadian talent Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 22) in the first round. The two players have never met before. It is uncertain when Sinner and Seppi will intervene in the tournament.
