Sinn Féin local council candidate, Aisling Flynn, has issued an “unreserved” apology after sharing a tweet that included a sectarian slur on social media. Flynn, who is standing in south Lisburn during the local council elections, stated that the retweet had been made “in error” and was subsequently removed. The Sinn Féin spokesperson also offered an apology, stating that Flynn had retweeted the post in error and had removed it once she became aware of the content. Social media posts have caused a series of scandals in the run-up to the elections, including revelations regarding the historical social media posts of a DUP candidate.
