The musician AA Williams has vehement criticism of the British government’s approach to the Brexit regulations for artists. The current situation makes it difficult or impossible to organize a tour due to travel and visa regulations. “And the government doesn’t seem keen to improve this situation,” Williams told the APA. “To be honest: it stresses me!”
According to Williams, the question also arises: “Do you care because nothing is possible due to Corona? If my tour would start tomorrow, I would not have the faintest idea how to damn it again,” said angry the British musician, who released her debut “Forever Blue” last year and will be releasing the cover album “Songs From Isolation” in mid-March. “There is no guidance, no guidelines. They just say there is a website with information, but that’s a joke!”
Most recently, prominent actors such as Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Julie Waters, who are also affected by the rules, have spoken out. “It is my hope that the public awareness will bring some movement into this topic. Maybe something will happen after all. And besides traveling there are enough other problems, like selling merchandise.” The British government has announced that it will take care of it. “But then you were surprised by all the problems. Only: This is no surprise!”
Williams understands that in view of the serious situation in the corona crisis, “this is currently not the top priority. But at some point you will have to deal with it”. Despite Corona, artists have to plan their concert tours, which often happens very well in advance. “And we want to play these gigs too! We will do everything we can,” said Williams fiercely. “The same goes for artists who want to come to Great Britain. We’re all in the same boat and will have to deal with it.”
