Singer Stefanie Kloß from band Silbermond urges voters in upcoming Saxony elections

Dresden (dpa/sn) – The singer of the band Silbermond from Bautzen, Stefanie Kloß, hopes that the state elections in Saxony next year will not become a protest election. “Anyone who has known us for a long time knows where we stand,” said singer Stefanie Kloß in an interview with the Sächsische Zeitung (Tuesday). “And I would like for our region that we don’t vote out of protest, but out of conviction.” In the past, the band had repeatedly dealt with their East German origins in their music and taken a position against right-wing extremism.

First and foremost, the band makes music and doesn’t convert anyone, said drummer Andreas Nowak. “But we will still follow the elections with excitement.”

The state elections in Saxony are scheduled to take place on September 1, 2024. According to forecasts, many citizens want to vote for the AfD. Just last week, the state branch of the party was classified by the Saxon Office for the Protection of the Constitution as having a proven right-wing extremist tendency.
