Writing for over 50 years Janis Ian critical folky songs, accompanying herself on guitar. She was one of the first female singer-songwriters in America. In 1965 she broke through with “Society’s child”, a song about a relationship between a white girl and a black boy. Although the song was not played on the radio at the time.
