Crosby had been ill for some time. The American singer was diagnosed with diabetes more than forty years ago.
“He passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife and son. And although he is no longer with us, his life will inspire us forever,” quoted Variety. “We will miss him terribly.” In the same statement, Crosby’s family asks for privacy to process the loss.
Crosby was part of the group The Byrds from 1965 to 1968 with Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke. After a disagreement, Crosby was kicked out of the band.
He then formed the super trio Crosby, Stills & Nash. Stills came from the band Buffalo Springfield and the Briton Nash was known from The Hollies. Neil Young later joined. In August 1969 they played at the famous Woodstock festival.
