Singer Seren Serengil announced who she would vote for on March 31 by publishing a video on her social media account. Serengil used the following statements:
“I was born and raised in Istanbul and I am voting for Ekrem İmamoğlu. Because I have character, because I love my country and because I love animals, I will not vote for those who defend the cruelty that has been committed against them in recent years.
I say to all my artist friends, ‘Let’s not lose our backbone’. Just as people do not choose to deal with us today, we are not obliged to choose anyone.
If we are going to be punished for this, go ahead and punish us. In a democratic country, everyone has the right to choose everyone else and the right to declare it.
For some reason, because of the atmosphere of fear, none of my friends are compromising themselves so that they cannot get a concert or act in TV series. I feel very sorry for them.
I am Turkish, I am Ataturk’s child. I will vote for Ekrem İmamoğlu. Everything will be very nice.”
