The British singer from Nigeria, who enjoyed huge success in the 1980s and 90s and whose last album was in 2010, is to release a song as part of a charity album.
Rare in recent years, the singer Sade, returns with a song to defend a subject that is dear to her. The singer of Smooth Operator wrote the song Young Lion (young lion) for an album to raise awareness of transgender issues.
In the song, Sade talks about her trans son, Isaac and her own experience as a mother, who did not immediately perceive the identity of her child. “Young man, it was so heavy for you/You must have felt so alone”, “I should have known”, Sade sings. She dedicates the song to him Young Lion.
This track is Sade’s first original title since 2018. Her latest songs Flower of the universe et The Big Unknownwere featured in the soundtrack of the Disney film A shortcut in time and in that of Steve McQueen’s film, The Widowsboth released in 2018.
“It’s incredible to hear a legendary musician like Sade sing about her candid experience as a parent of a transgender child,” the musician and transgender activist said in an interview, Maxim Bellwho produced the album. “It’s incredibly powerful.”
This album project, called Fuck, is the work of the non-profit association, Red Hot. It brings together a total of a hundred artists, who deliver 46 exclusive tracks. The album lasts three and a half hours. Sam Smith composed a track, but also Andre 3000 and Devandra Banhart.
The album, available for pre-order, will be available on November 22, 2024.
