Singer and entertainer Robbert van der Steenhoven, born in Alkmaar and raised in Heerhugowaard, died suddenly on Sunday. Van der Steenhoven was 32 years old.

Van der Steenhoven made a name for himself with Dutch-language repertoire. His famous songs were ‘Love is the best medicine’, ‘Dancing together’ and ‘Let me dream’. He was also the resident singer of Café ‘t Hartje on Waagplein and Dancing Marlène in Heerhugowaard. He also performed every month in Café Bolle Jan in Amsterdam. A few years ago, Van der Steenhoven also performed on Waagplein in the TV program Sterren Muziekfeest op het Plein.

Van der Steenhoven’s dream to be on stage as a singer became reality in 2012 when he formed the duo Dwars Door Midden with Henk Naber. In 2015 he broke through as a solo artist with the single ‘Love is the best medicine’.

The ‘I love Holland’ party on Saturday evening in the marquee at Havenplein in Broek op Langedijk was Robbert van der Steenhoven’s last performance.
