Singer of ‘Be my baby’ passed away

American singer Ronnie Spector passed away on Wednesday at the age of 78. She became world famous in the 1960s as the front woman of The Ronettes. Spector’s family announce that she has died after a short battle with cancer.

The singer, who was born Veronica Bennett, founded The Darling Sisters in the late 1950s, along with her older sister and their niece. After a name change to The Ronettes, world hits such as ‘Be my baby’, ‘Baby, I love you’ and ‘Walking in the rain’ followed. The group broke up in 1967.

The famous and infamous producer Phil Spector was responsible for most of their hits. Ronnie herself was married to the producer who was later convicted of murder from 1968 to 1974. “As I often said when he was alive, he was a brilliant producer, but a bad husband,” the singer said after the dead from her ex-husband almost a year ago.

After the end of The Ronettes, Spector also released several solo albums, but she was unable to match the group’s success. her latest record, English Heart, was released in 2016. In 2007 the Ronettes were still inducted into the Rock ‘n roll Hall of fame.

The singer leaves behind her husband Jonathan Greenfield and their two sons.
