Singer Lenny: I overcome obstacles because of my love for music

Is it hard to get to such an important festival as Sziget?

Actually, I don’t know, because the Czech representatives of the festival contacted me directly. It was before the pandemic, they asked me if I would like to perform at the festival, and because it is an offer that is not rejected, I agreed. I was supposed to perform two years ago, but due to the covid, it moved to this year. I’m glad the offer was still valid.

Up to half a million people travel to Sziget. Will this be your biggest event?

Definitely yes. But I don’t know how many people come to my concert, because it’s played on several stages at the same time and the audience chooses what they go to. On the evening I perform, the main star of the program will be the American singer Justin Bieber. He will sing at night, it will be waiting for us in the early evening.

You will surely present the new song Live in Hungary. Laugh. Cry. What’s her story?

Most of my songs have been in my drawer for a long time, so to speak, and we sometimes pull them out and work on them. Live. Laugh. Cry formed quickly and spontaneously. I worked on a record in Berlin and at the same time producers Ondřej Fiedler and Marcell Procházka were there independently of me. It occurred to me to contact them and try to write a song in one day. The result is Live. Laugh. Cry.

What is it about?

For a long time now, I wanted to write a song with a deeper personal text. Live. Laugh. Cry made it possible for me. It’s about my field, that is, music, and that I love him so much, which brings me great joy and obstacles in my life. These include criticisms of people, various negative comments, failed performances, meetings, physical and mental exhaustion and the like.

The text says that I overcome all those obstacles thanks to my great love for things. The motto of the song is to live, laugh and sometimes cry. It is transferable to all walks of life and activities.

Have you ever been tired of the obstacles you had to overcome, so that you doubted if you were on the right path of life?

I have my doubts, but I have no doubt that music belongs to me. Sometimes I wonder if I’m good enough to get even higher, if I shouldn’t be satisfied with what I’ve achieved and be grateful for it. But it’s not fatigue, it’s doubts that a lot of people have in their lives.

So are you still trying to succeed with your music elsewhere than in the Czech Republic?

Yes, I’ve actually had this desire since I was a kid. At the same time, I never thought about my music in such a way that it is possible to succeed in the Czech Republic and succeed abroad. I wanted to make the best music I could, surround myself with fantastic teammates and offer our work to people.

The definition of my goal is not to break through abroad. The definition is to appeal to music, to transfer emotions from it to as many people as possible and to perform everywhere and on as many stages as possible. And it doesn’t matter where.

What is the state of preparations for your third album?

I have a lot of new songs. These are my feelings and emotions compressed into mp3 format. I feel like I want to go out with them, and although the record company talked me into recording the album and tended to release singles, and my German management made me postpone the release, I want to go out with it. We have selected twelve songs with lyrics that I want to tell the world right now. The album will be released after the summer.

So will he be personal?

I would compare him to my debut Hearts. There will be a number of text forms that I used at that time. It covers stories that are fictional, not about me, and the product of my imagination, as well as texts that are extremely personal. For example, I recorded a piano ballad, in the text of which I wrote everything that was in me. By the way, I write texts that have something to do with me much faster than those with a fictional story.

As for the sound of new songs, they will have a rock soul. I went back to the roots from which I arose. As a teenager, I listened to Blink-182, Linkin Park, or singers Avril Lavigne and Pink, just rock stuff. I want the album to be rock.

Last December you released the song Lithium, produced by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park. Has the cooperation with him ended yet?

I dare say not forever. I was pleasantly surprised that Mike is interested in the next journey of our joint song. So we are still in contact and I believe that there will be further cooperation.
