Singer Laima Vaikule has experienced both stunning achievements and serious experiences in her life. In the program “With a song about life” of “Radio SWH”, she reveals her experiences, which she has gone through while fighting for her health. “I was lucky,” the singer says when asked how she overcame all the difficult life situations related to health, “First of all, I was in America. Second, I was surrounded by wonderful doctors, super surgeons.” Vaikule remembers the moment when she underwent a radiation procedure, after which both the radiologist hugged and cried: “I was treated like this all the time, from all sides. That’s why I immediately said that I fell in love with America. I fell in love very much because people were so responsive.”
Vaikule states that the treatment in the United States was decisive: “I was in the last stage. I was 80 to 20 percent that I would not survive. 80 that I would not survive!” The singer encourages anyone who has been in such a misfortune to fight: “Even if they tell you it’s very bad, it doesn’t matter. You can buy time for yourself. Many, many years have passed for me, fight and don’t be afraid. Medicine today is incomparable to what it was like when I was treated.”
Asked if there was a fear that the disease might return, Vaikule answers in the affirmative: “The first five years – after every three months you have to be examined, and I was traveling to America at that time and was in America. Always terrible stress. When my friend asked me before the operation: “What book should I bring you?” I said without thinking: “The Bible.” It was the only thing that gave me the strength to survive it. It is very stressful and I understand people , who has such misfortune today, do not be afraid, fight.”
