The Mexican singer Kalimba Marichal was linked to proceedings for the alleged crime of sexual abuse aggravated with violence against the singer Melissa Galindo, after a judge determined, in a hearing held this Wednesday in Mexico City, that there was sufficient evidence to initiate a criminal trial, local media reported.
Despite the judge’s decision, he established that Kalimba carry out his trial in freedom, since the accusing party did not request a measure of preventive detention. At the same time, the magistrate ordered a period of six months for both parties to carry out the complementary investigation.
At the end of the hearing, the singer of ‘I don’t want to fall in love’ declared to the media that he felt “calm” and that he continued to “trust the authorities” and “the law.” “My innocence will be proven with the process that follows, there I am and there is nothing more to say,” he concluded.
For his part, Galindo asserted that he does not regret “raising his voice,” since the complaint he filed in March of last year against Marichal for alleged harassment and sexual abuse was done with the purpose of “creating a change.” in society, where the last people to be “afraid to speak” are the victims.
This is not the first time Kalimba, 41, has faced accusations of sexual abuse. In 2011, the former member of the Mexican group OV7 was accused of allegedly raping a minor at the end of 2010. After being held in the Social Readaptation Center of Chetumal, in the state of Quintana Roo, the artist was placed released due to lack of evidence to prove his guilt.
