Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi has been praised by US police for helping a woman in distress on the ledge of a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday night.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department shared a video of Bon Jovi frontman and his crew, who were on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge when a woman was standing precariously on the edge of the infrastructure that spans the Cumberland River.
Bon Jovi, 62, and others talked to the woman and convinced her to return to the bridge, police said.
“We all need to help each other stay safe,” Commissioner John Drake said in a brief statement.

Stopping a video recording
Bon Jovi was apparently on the bridge filming a music video, according to separate images posted on social media, BBC journalist Thomas Mackintosh wrote.
The singer and actor released his sixteenth album this year, titled “Forever,” which has reached number one on the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
In the video released by police, a woman in blue can be seen holding on to the railing as she stands on the ledge of the bridge.
Other people walk past her and, a little further down the bridge, Bon Jovi’s team appears to be setting up camera equipment.
The singer approaches the woman with another person while his team stands further away.
The musician can then be seen waving at her and leaning on the railing near her, while dedicating a few words to her.
After about a minute, Bon Jovi approaches the woman and, with the help of another woman, they lead her back to the pedestrian walkway of the bridge.
Other people approach after the woman is safe and the musician hugs her.
A few minutes later, police footage shows Bon Jovi walking off the bridge with her.

Shower of thanks
Accompanying the video on social media, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department wrote the following message: “A big thank you to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for assisting a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge (on) Tuesday night.”
“Bon Jovi helped coax her off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety,” the statement said.
The music star’s attitude was also praised by some of his followers and ordinary citizens.
“From all of us who have been struggling, thank you for standing up and helping,” one person wrote to Bon Jovi on Instagram.
The London daily The Independent reports that the rescued woman, whose identity has not been revealed and whose only known identity is that she is 36 years old, has been taken to hospital for treatment.
