According to the singer’s representative Aiga Leitholde, Jekaterina Sarigina was born and raised in Latvia, but studied music in the world. Her debut album “Mayflower” is also the epitome of a musical exploration, a “break-out” phase, summarizing the musician’s experience over the past two years: traveling between London and Boston during the pandemic to graduate from the New England Conservatory, followed by a move to China. to work as a teacher in an international school.
Self-released and recorded in the USA, Latvia and China, but mastered in Great Britain, this is an album whose name is inspired by the 1620 story of pilgrimage and transformation. “Mayflower” tells the story of what happens to a person who has got rid of the past and is ready for the unknown, writes Leitholde.
The album reflects in many ways the reality that many young artists around the world will now recognize. Featuring an eclectic group of musicians from Israel, South Korea and the United States, the album is a collection of various aesthetic elements, sound components and possibilities.
All of the songs on the album are written by Ekaterina Sarigina, with the exception of Wintersweet, whose music was written by Kenny Wheeler, and Norma Vinstone, and Wrong Lullaby, which features William Shakespeare’s lyrics.
