Singer Jan Rot (63) terminally ill

Singer, songwriter and translator Jan Rot, who lives in Rotterdam, is terminally ill. He made the announcement today on his Facebook page.

In early May, a large tumor was removed from the singer’s stomach and intestines; this week showed a scan that he has so many metastases that he can no longer get better. “How much time I have left will become clear automatically. It is very unreal. I am physically tired quickly, but otherwise I have little trouble,” writes Rot.

Jan Rot has been making music since 1978 and has mainly performed solo since 1982, with largely his own work, initially in English, later in Dutch. In 2000 he started translating and retranslating world hits, musicals and classical works into Dutch, which has earned him a lot of recognition. He has also bundled several hundred of those translations; last year and this year in two sturdy books. Together with ex-Berini Marjolein Meijers he has staged his translations under the name An + Jan.

The singer is not thinking about stopping for the time being. “I will continue to perform until I drop, just hope to start with the song program ‘OK Boomer’ in September and in the meantime learn to accept the sledgehammer blow for my beautiful family with lots of love, peace and a bit of gallows humor. Just like the blow to friends, family, fans and followers.”
